by Rosa Luxembourgeoise

The testicular-supersized bestselling author of such valuable contributions to Marxist theory as The Lexus and The Olive Tree, and The World Is Flat, Thomas Friedman, continues to agitate the masses in the pages of the New York Times, which has inexplicably provided him space to call on youth to carry out revolutionary struggle. “Our kids should be so much more radical than they are today”, writes Friedman , to which we here, at Wordsmoker, respond, “Huh?”, because we are unfamiliar with Leninist slogans, seeing how we are largely Generation X losers, which is why Friedman’s article, titled, intriguingly, “The Real Generation X” has us Googling sites in Hanoi, flat-earthishly, trying to figure out what in the world the word “radical” could possibly mean!
So, for your edification, we’ll share with you the results of our little search. So there’s this Karl Marx dude telling this Hegel guy that he’s got everything right but backwards, and he explains what radical means!, and basically supports formulating ad hominem attacks on Thomas Friedman, whee!
“The weapon of criticism cannot, of course, replace criticism of the weapon, material force must be overthrown by material force; but theory also becomes a material force as soon as it has gripped the masses. Theory is capable of gripping the masses as soon as it demonstrates ad hominem, and it demonstrates ad hominem as soon as it becomes radical. To be radical is to grasp the root of the matter. But, for man, the root is man himself. The evident proof of the radicalism of German theory, and hence of its practical energy, is that is proceeds from a resolute positive abolition of religion. The criticism of religion ends with the teaching that man is the highest essence for man – hence, with the categoric imperative to overthrow all relations in which man is a debased, enslaved, abandoned, despicable essence, relations which cannot be better described than by the cry of a Frenchman when it was planned to introduce a tax on dogs: Poor dogs! They want to treat you as human beings!”.

What now, Thomas Friedman, should the youth of today rise up against grotesque labor practices that result from the globalization you’ve been shilling, for profit, for years? Or are you trying to tell us that endentured laborers forced to toil in crap conditions should rise up and take control of their means of production? What next? Are you planning to admit that the USA bombed countries with McDonalds, you crazy commie?
Very cool blog; me likes words, too. Relevant to the Tom Freidman op-ed is the fact that many commentators have said that Obama is post-Boomer, and more specifically part of Generation Jones, born 1954-1965, between the Baby Boomers and Generation X. Google this and you’ll see it’s a pretty long list of commentators who have already stated this position. Among those who have publicly referred to Obama as part of Generation Jones are: David Brooks (New York Times), Karen Tumulty (Time Magazine), Roland Martin (CNN), Michael Steele (Chairman, GOPAC), Chris Van Hollen (Chairman, DCCC), Stuart Rothenberg (Roll Call), Clarence Page (Chicago Tribune), Juan Williams (Fox News Channel), Howard Wolfson (Political Advisor), Mel Martinez (U.S. Senator [R-Florida]), Carl Leubsdorf (Dallas Morning News), Jonathan Alter (Newsweek), and Peter Fenn (MSNBC). You can see some of them discussing this topic in this 5 minute video on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ta_Du5K0jk
@rosaluxembourgeoise: Let us not underestimate TF’s theoretical sophistication. His theory does not preclude US from bombing countries McDonalds, but only HUMAN RIGHTS RESPECTING countries with McDonalds. Hence, the only thing that precludes US from bombing US is that TF gets to decide which countries are human rights respecting and which are not. Do you see the sophistication? No. OK, let me make is more graphic. TF in his theory states: bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, bla, I (as a CFR member) decide who the US is to bomb and when. Capice? So, do not underestimate this deep, deep shit thinker again.
@Zemoralist: But before we get into Friedman’s sophistication, I have to know if you have supersized testicles.
@rosaluxembourgeoise: I have never actually done the comparisons, but let us say definitely YES.
Friedman can suck my man-root, but only Marx is allowed to grab it.
In that case, Let me tell you that Friedman never formulated the rule that but only “HUMAN RIGHTS RESPECTING countries with McDonalds” would not wage war against each other, but did pronounce that “no two countries with a McDonald’s franchise had ever gone to war with one another”; your argument therefore fails, but your sentiments warm the cockles of my heart.
@Rosa: If one country only has McDonalds franchises, and another country has only Burger King franchises, are they allow to go to war against each other?
Burger King nation over McDonald’s, but Wendy would sweep in, attack both, and then braid her red locks.
